WOMEN ACCOUNTANTS RECEIVE KUDOS ON FLOATING SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria, (SWAN) Uyo Chapter, has received a pat on the back for floating scholarship scheme to cater for indigent students in public secondary schools in the State.

The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, gave the commendation Thursday, June 24th, 2021, while playing host to the executive of the society, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Pastor Andrew-Essien who lauded the foresight of the Women Accountants at floating the scholarship programme said, it will go a long way to helping indigent students fulfill their ambition of becoming accountants.

The Accountant General however encouraged SWAN to explore avenues of increasing the number of beneficiaries of the scholarship programme to accommodate at least a student from each Federal Constituency.

He said he was happy with the number of students who have enrolled for the Accounting Technicians Schemes West Africa, expressing the optimism that with proper orientation and enlightenment, more students would join the scheme in the nearest future.

Pastor Andrew-Essien praised the Women Accountants for accepting to serve the society, noting that before now, Accountants were reluctant to take position of responsibility in the organization.

The Accountant General congratulated the Women Accountants on the peaceful and successful conduct of her election and pledged his support to the body.

The Chairperson, Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria, Uyo Chapter, Mrs. Victoria Ibanga said, they were in the Accountant General’s office to report on the progress made by the current exco whose tenure would expire on 26th June, 2021.

Mrs. Ibanga intimated the Accountant General that, the “catch them young” programme of the society has yielded positive results as parents, teachers and students have been enlightened on why students should pursue a career in accounting.

The Chairperson said, the exco needed to float a scholarship scheme to cater for the financial needs of the underprivileged students.

According to her, Miss Peter Glory Udofia of Christian Secondary Commercial School, Uyo is currently on the scholarship scheme of the Society, saying her tuition and examination fees for the three stages have been taken care off.

Mrs. Ibanga invited the Accountant General to the inauguration of the new executive of the Society, coming up on the 26th of June, 2021 and requested his support for the successful hosting of the event.
