EYIBOH DECLARES SUPPORT FOR ETTEH, SAMPSON’S RETURN TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Eseme Eyiboh, has endorsed the re-election of Okpolupm Etteh and Ekong Sampson, citing their performance and the need for continuity in governance.

Speaking to journalists in Uyo, Eyiboh said both lawmakers have delivered on their mandates and deserve another term to consolidate their achievements at the National Assembly.

He noted that supporting their return is consistent with similar endorsements across different levels of government, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, and Umo Eno.

According to him, Etteh has fulfilled zoning expectations and performed creditably, making a strong case for his re-election.

Eyiboh argued that fairness and political consistency require that the same level of support extended to other leaders seeking second terms should also apply to Etteh and Sampson.

“If continuity is being encouraged at the presidential, senatorial, and gubernatorial levels, then it is only fair that lawmakers who have performed well are also given the opportunity to return,” he said.

On the forthcoming APC primaries, Eyiboh called for a level playing field for all aspirants, stressing the importance of issue based campaigns rather than reliance on political influence or name dropping.

He urged aspirants to present clear manifestos and engage voters directly, emphasizing that candidates must earn the people’s mandate through credibility, competence, and vision.

He also highlighted the importance of electing leaders with integrity, experience, and courage, describing them as essential to sustaining the state’s political and developmental gains.

Commenting on the performance of the APC led Federal Government, Eyiboh pointed to initiatives such as the student loan scheme, which he said has enabled thousands of underprivileged students to access education funding.

On the recently amended Electoral Act 2026, he described it as a major step forward for Nigeria’s democracy, particularly with the reintroduction of direct primaries.

According to him, the reform strengthens internal party democracy by allowing aspirants to test their popularity directly with party members, thereby reducing disputes, litigations, and internal crises.

Eyiboh concluded that the new electoral framework compels aspirants to actively campaign, promote their credentials, and convincingly present their case to voters, ultimately strengthening the democratic process.
