A cross section of the University of Uyo (Uniuyo) students, on Wednesday, staged a Unity Match to the Government House to show their solidarity to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, on the occasion of their 2017 students’ week.
Comrade Kufre Samuel, the Student Union President while speaking on behalf of the students, express full satisfaction and thank the Governor for his benevolence and prompt intervention on the internal roads in the University main campus.
The SUG President also thank the student friendly Governor for not disembarking on the free and compulsory education Policy already initiated by His predecessor which most of them had benefited from.
“The Governor’s industrialization drive is second to none in the country given the lean resources, and we will stand a better chance to be gainfully employed after our graduation from the University and because of this we are here to tell His Excellency, Gov Udom Emmanuel to continue in office as Governor till 2023” – Comrade Samuel said
In response, Governor Emmanuel, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Pastor Paul Alexanda Udofia, said that the Governor’s agenda in Education is to bring out the best hands who will manned every sector of the economy and that as a student-friendly Governor he’s out to ensure that students are given a conducive environment to learn.
The Governor charged the students against all manners of ill vices like cultism, exams malpractices and encourage them to always strive to be a good ambassador to the State. While the voters exercise is ongoing, Gov Emmanuel urged all the students to take advantage of the voters Registration exercise and get registered so they can exercise their franchise in the 2019 General election.
The students were also advised to be gender friendly and should shun all forms of domestic violence against the women. The advice was in line with the campaign against domestic violence which tag: “Future Without Violence” to mark the students’ week.
Accompanying the Hon. Commissioner for Education was the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Essien Ndueso and the Special Assistant on Student Matters, Miss Otobong Akpan.
