Build up to Nigeria’s 59th independence anniversary, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has called on Nigerians to keep faith with the country, assuring that the country will come out better from its present challenges.
Governor Emmanuel made the call while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents on arrival from outside engagement at the Victor Attah International Airport .
He said that the country is blessed with abundant human and material resources and advocated the utilisation of the resources to address the needs of the country.
Hear him: ”I have never seen a country that is as blessed as Nigeria. In terms of human resources, we have a whole lot. Nigerians have the capacity so we need to harness and see what we can make out of the resources..
Mr Emmanuel who congratulated the leadership and citizens of the country at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the 59th independence anniversary, said there are lot of countries that have not been through the kind challenges faced by Nigeria yet they are torn apart and advised on the need to apply local solutions to the challenges faced in the Country.
“I want to say a big congratulations to all of us. There are a lot of countries that did not go through the challenges we have gone through and they have been completely torn apart. So for us to go through all these challenges and survive, it means we can find our own solutions to our problems”, he stated.
Governor Emmanuel also advised Nigerians not to lose hope in the country as there is no nation that attain greatness without going through challenges, hoping that Nigeria will get out of its current challenges.
“…..people should learn to understand that there is no nation that attends greatness without going through the challenges that we’ve gone through. So let people not just lose hope so easily”, he advised.
The Governor was emphatic that Nigerians need to love one another for the country to move forward, adding that Nigerians are making names across the globe in terms of human resources and advised that the abundant talents need to be harnessed for attainment of the Nigerian projects to enable the country get out of the prevailing challenges.
“we need to love one another. If we love one another as a people, I think we will go a long way. let’s also see how we can harness the talents that we have”, Emmanuel admonished.
On hand to receive the Governor were the Secretary to the state Government Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Head of Civil Service Eldest Effiong Essien, State Executive Council members, Chairman Ibom Power Company Engr. Etido Inyang, former Uyo House of Assembly member Hon. Monday Eyo, among others.
