History played out as the Federated Onna Student of Nigeria FOSON, University of Uyo chapter on Thursday June 08, 2017 had their first ever Student’s prayer summit/dinner and awards night tagged: Unity in Diversity; A tool for effective Productivity.
The event was spirit filled as praises and intercessory prayers were offered to God for our nation Nigeria, state, our Leaders and governance, University of Uyo as well as Onna and its people. In a word of exhortation by Apostle Dr. Thompson Etuk of the Jubilee Christian centre urging all students from Onna extraction to imbibe the spirit of oneness, saying that it is through unity that progress, growth and development can thrive among Onna students.
The high point of the event was the presentation of awards to imminent sons and daughters of Onna Local Government Area. Among the awards presented was The Exceptional leadership Award presented to the Honorable member representing Onna state constituency Hon. (Otuekong) Nse Essien Aka Indomitable for his enormous contribution to the growth of Onna students and FOSON in particular. Also, “Father of faith award” was conferred on Apostle Dr. Thompson Etuk for his mentorship role and unwavering support to the association.
More so, an award of honor were given to Dr. Charles Obot-Foson staff adviser; Mr Itoro Macauley- Priority manager, Skybank Plc; Mr. Owoedimo Billy-principal consultant, Owoedimo Billy Consult; Comr. Akwaowo Clifford-NANs JCC chairman; Comr. Kufre Samuel-University of Uyo SUG president, among other eminent personalities.
In an address by the president of Federated Onna student of Nigeria FOSON, Comrade Jerry Williams, he called on continuous unity among all stakeholders of the association at every level as well as a continuous synergy between the association and the highly placed Sons and daughters of Onna. He extolled the Prayer summit as timely, coming in a time our nation is rocked with several challenges. Comrade Jerry Williams used the occasion to officially flag-off a student based community service oriented campaign tagged: Student Volunteerism Movement (SVM) a selfless service campaign aimed at awakening self-consciousness in youths and students of Onna.
The President listed projects of the SVM campaign to include:
• Community cleanups/sanitation exercise.
• Public facilities maintenance.
• Career counseling and awareness tour in secondary schools in Onna.
• Provision of sign posts at designated public facilities.
• Charitable programs. et al.
He called for continuous support from all and sundry for the success of the SVM campaign while thanking all that contributed in one way or the other to the success of the Student’s prayer summit/Dinner and awards night.
Ultimately, the occasion was applauded by all as a welcome development and a remarkable milestone. However, It was graced by eminent personalities from Onna Local government area and various Student Leaders within and outside University of Uyo.
