The last is yet to be heard of penultimate week’s attack on the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo in Abak, as those alleged to have been part of the assault including one Mr. Aniekan Idiong (AKA Backup) in helping the security agencies with information on the motive behind the attack has named the member for Abak in the State House of Assembly, Elder Friday Iwok as their sponsor.

Report has it that the assailants suspected to be gang members from splinters that terrorized Ukanafun turned off the generator several times, threatening physical assault on the Deputy Governor who was attending a meeting at the PDP Chapter secretariat, where the Chapter Chairman Dr. Michael Dan was to present the new bus donated to the party by Governor Udom Emmanuel to stakeholders of the area.

Worried that the local zoning will automatically kill his National Assembly aspiration since the last National Assembly member produced by Abak in the current democratic dispensation hailed from the same Otoro Ward 1 where Iwok comes from, which has seen to his plotting nefarious activities aimed at upturning justice and equity, a move political gladiators in the Area have vowed to resist.

According to Backup’s alleged confession, Elder Iwok who was startled that the meeting could advance into one where zoning of political offices in the area would be considered, as political activities heighten to the disadvantage of his 2019 House of Representatives ambition got apprehensive, and mobilized the youths to cause mayhem and harass the Deputy Governor to drop the plan.

Things went out of hand when the assailants on realizing that the meeting was a departure from the brief they got from Iwok, went ahead to interrupt the meeting, threatening to deal with the Deputy Governor, for fear of losing the one hundred thousand Naira balance of the three hundred thousand Naira deal they agreed for the job.

Privy to the confession as to Friday Iwok’s culpability, findings have revealed that he has denied involving in such heinous act against the deputy governor and other stakeholders, but accepted giving money to the assailants, when family members of those affected by the arrest confronted him to make moves for their release, since they were working for him.

It will be recalled that this is one in the series of violent activities that has been linked to Iwok, including a bonfire protest in 2008 when Late Hon. Aniediabasi Udo defeated him to the party’s chairmanship ticket, as well as a fetish display of coffin against the second term ambition of his predecessor in the state assembly, Hon. Uwem Udoma in 2011, and recently, a violent protest against the defeat of his preferred candidate for Chairmanship of Abak Local Government Mr. Jude Edem.

Determined to unravel the mystery behind such offensive on the Deputy Governor, some stakeholders of the area who have frowned at the incident have vowed to see that justice is done on the matter to forestall future occurrence, while promising to volunteer information on the whereabouts of fleeing suspects.

Further investigation by our reporter has it that it was the Deputy Governor who intervened calling for restraint, when security details attached him threatened action against the assailants.

Efforts to reach the Abak State Assemblyman for explanations met a brick wall as he refused to pick calls put across to his mobile lines.
