By Jacob AjomThe Nigeria Boxing Board of Control has rejected in categorical terms the outcome of the World Boxing Association Super Middleweight title fight between champion, Tyron Zeuge of Germany and Nigeria’s Isaac Ekpo.
The fight which took place at the MBS Potsdam Brandeburg in Germany, March 25, saw the German coming out tops. But the NBB of C scribe, Remi Aboderin disagrees with the decision of the referee, Raul Caiz and the judges. Said he, “After watching the bout several times, in my opinion, the only reason the fight was given to Tyron Zeuge was because the bout took place in Germany, his backyard.”
Continuing, Aboderin said if the referee could allow fight to continue after the champion suffered a deep cut, early in the bout, even when it was clear that Ekpo was gaining the upper hand and made the Zeuge uncoordinated, “the only way they should have compensated him should have been to stage a rematch, not by awarding him the fight he lost clearly,” he said.
Aboderin is however, consoled by reports that Ekpo’s camp are planning to challenge the champion again for a rematch.
He said the NBB of C were “solidly behind Ekpo on this and we will lodge our official protest with the President of the World Boxing Association on this daylight boxing robbery.”
