The Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Rt. Hon. Orman Esin has said that Akwa Ibom State is ready to host visitors from around the world this yuletide for the 2021 edition of the Ibom Christmas Celebration.

The Tourism Commissioner made the statement on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Akwa Ibom State Liaison Office in Lagos during a media parley.

In his remark, Mr. Orman stated that the motivation to invite the world to Akwa Ibom is based on the approval of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who gave blessings for the 3rd edition of the annual festival.

According to him, ‘it is on that premise that we hit the ground running to market Akwa Ibom as a choice destination and project the Ibom Christmas Festival brand to corporate Nigeria for partnership and sponsorship with this unveiling in Lagos, Africa’s commercial capital, hence our interaction with journalists and tour operators.

“The aim of the briefing and unveiling is to intimate Nigerians and indeed Africans on the giant strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom State, especially in the tourism sector. Also to invite the world to experience Akwa Ibom in all its splendor as a top choice destination to live, work and invest.”

Speaking further, he reiterated that tourism is vital for the success of many economies around the world, with several benefits to host destinations as it boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs, develops the infrastructures of a community, and plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens.

“For 2 consecutive years, Akwa Ibom State under Governor Udom Emmanuel has successfully hosted arguably the biggest Christmas Celebration event in this part of Africa. The Ibom Christmas Celebration, which holds at the Ibom Christmas Village, Uyo, sits on 11 acres of land in between Nsikak Eduok Avenue and Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, overlooking the Dakkada Towers – a magnificent 21-storey smart building constructed by the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration,” he said.

In attendance were entertainment and tourism journalists, tour operators, stakeholders, and the Akwa Ibom Laison Office staff.

In the usual tradition, the 3rd edition commences from the 1st of December 2021 through to the 1st of January 2022, offering 32 days of non-stop fun to residents and visitors to the state.
