2023: SO THEY HAVE SEEN EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN COMING?

By Osondu Ahirika

Of a truth a toad never runs in the afternoon in vain. Either it has seen something and pursuing it or has seen something is pursuing it.

That simple axiom explains the dilemma, panic and trepidation of Gospel Johnson (I suspect its a pen name with the real author hiding behind his thumb) and his sponsors, privies, proxies and co-conspirators for writing the incendiary piece titled; 2023: THE GIANT ODDS OF INYANG-EYEN’S SENATORIAL AMBITION.

They are applying the simple rule of the Mafia- ‘Don’t let them see you coming’. When evil men, competitors and rivals see your vision or prospects, they go for the kill.

In the Bible book of Genesis 37 reading from 17b- 18, scripture says, “So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. “Here comes that dreamer! they said to each other. “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then, we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”

‘Gospel Johnson’ set out to plot the kill of Ephraim Inyangeyen’s perceived Senate ambition with his cohorts, whoever they are, because they see him coming. He ended up announcing, projecting, amplifying and promoting the prospects if indeed the Chief of Staff to the Akwa Ibom State Governor decides to run for the Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District seat come 2023. How do I mean.

Unsolicited, ‘Gospel Johnson’ wrote:
“Recently, Mr Ephraim Inyang -Eyen has indicated interest in running for a Senate position in 2023. He is said to have told journalists that he could contest the Senatorial seat. He noted that he will only do so “if it turns out to be the will of God”. Inyang-Eyen is said to have interacted with members of the Conference of Online Publishers Akwa Ibom State (COOPA), on the 3rd edition of their annual Democracy Day Social Media Convo on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

“I am happy with the democracy we’re practicing, but I think we can do better. Democracy at anytime is better than the command system. When you take decisions without consulting the people, there are bound to be ‘mix ups’.

“If it is the will of God that I contest election in 2023, I will contest. If it is the will of God, He will put it in the minds of my people. It is God’s plans that will work in Akwa Ibom State. Men will plan, but God will overrule”, the Chief of Staff was quoted to have said.”

My take: I applaud ‘Gospel Johnson’ for the additional mileage and Public relations job he has done for the CoS. He reported accurately a long forgotten news parley and therefore reinforces the impact of that interface with newsmen

Then ‘Gospel Johnson’ belaboured himself to give us a history of the Senate cycle and averred that the reason for the rotation is that, “Truth is, 22years on since 1999, the Senatorial District has had the most orderly rotation pattern. The reason for this is simple. The position has to go round fairly to all component parts of the district.”

‘Gospel Johnson ‘then narrates that sequence, stating that, “For instance, in 1999, the first person to have clinched the ticket was Senator Udoma Udo Udoma. He was from Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. He occupied the seat for eight years between 1999 and 2007. Again in 2007, Senator Eme Ufot Ekaette from Onna State Constituency of Eket Federal Constituency clinched the ticket. She ran a single tenure ending in 2011. Another woman, Senator Helen Esuene of Eket State Constituency in Eket Federal Constituency took the ticket, running from 2011 to 2015. The batton was passed to Senator Nelson Effiong from Oron Federal Constituency whose single tenure transited in 2019 into the current one held by Senator Akon Eyakenyi still from Oron Federal Constituency.”

Then he gives us a perfect denouement. An incontrovertible resolution and verdict. He wrote emphatically: “By 2023, the current zoning circle would be completed and the next one would begin.” If I read the political meter correctly that means equity has been established. A full cycle has been completed and every Federal Constituency in ESD on a Head-to-Head standing are at par. Its now a level playing field come 2023.

There is no fixated rule that the new cycle must start from a particular place. Indeed, it can start from anywhere. This is without bias to the three Federal Constituencies in ESD. Even for the Presidency, the North are in the race because they argue, the cycle of rotation between North and South which started on May 1999 has been concluded.

At the Akwa Ibom State level, Otuekong Arc. Ezekiel Nyaetok is making an audacious bid for the Governorship race come 2023. He is from Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District. The position is that by 2023, the three Senatorial Districts would have all had their turns in power and the cycle completed. The new rotation cycle could as well begin anywhere, even from ESD.

Believe me, a significant portion of the population share this viewpoint. It is a school of thought you cannot wish away or write off with the wishy-washy caption – 2023: THE GIANT ODDS OF INYANG-EYEN’S SENATORIAL AMBITION.

All the ‘Gospel Johnson’s” should know that, where Mkpisong Ephraim Inyangeyen was not outrightly declaratory in that statement that he is running for the Senate seat of ESD, they should calm down and not allow fear of the unknown ruin them before their time.

I may not know the true mindset of Mkpisong Inyangeyen on the rumour. Suffice it to say that I know what will be will be. I will rest this intervention on the pillar of assertion already submitted by the CoS

“If it is the will of God that I contest election in 2023, I will contest. If it is the will of God, He will put it in the minds of my people. It is God’s plans that will work in Akwa Ibom State. Men will plan, but God will overrule”

No man can play God over the destiny of men. Only God is the Author and Finisher of everyman fate. All Power belongs to That Same God and to whomsoever He wills, He gives Power. Ephraim Inyangeyen Asak mmo!
