Governor Udom Emmanuel is vigorously growing manpower capacities to effectively meet and utilize the new business frontiers springing up in the state, with his increasing drive in diversification of economy.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh who made this known early today during a courtesy call on him by members of the Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria said, Akwa Ibom people can only benefit from the new business frontiers if they posses the relevant skills and educational requirements, hence government investment in human capacity building.
Charles Udoh emphasized that, with the heightened momentum in diversification of economy towards industrialization of the State, government has built the capacity of many youths through training within and outside the country to acquire the needed technology and skills in order to enable them work in factories attracted to the state as well as learn the technicalities involved in operating the high -tech machines.
He emphasized that, in addition to training for machine-oriented labour, indigenes of the state particularly the youths have are also been trained in profitable business ventures in other sectors such as Agriculture, Power, ICT and various other vocational skills including; digital marketing, Oracle Data Base administration, pharmaceuticals, photography, cosmetology, fashion design and clothing as well as agro-allied ventures.
The Information Boss said, Governor Udom Emmanuel is in a hurry to turn around the fortunes of the state through partnership with the private sector and expressed appreciation to the Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria for gearing at opening new frontiers in education scholarships which will boost government free and compulsory education programme for the people of the state.
Udoh reiterated that, Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to ensuring that, no Akwa Ibom child is denied basic education, hence his policy on free education from the Primary to the Senior Secondary School level and payment of WAEC Fees to all Akwa Ibom indigenes in public secondary schools adding that since scholarship is the major focus of the association, his Ministry and indeed government will support its cause.
The South/South Coordinator of the Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria, Prof Eno-Abasi Urua who led the team on the courtesy call said most Akwa Ibom indigenes are ignorant about the Commonwealth Scholarship hence the advocacy visit on the Information Commissioner through which the public will be sensitized on the opportunities available in the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) to build capacities of citizens of the commonwealth countries at undergraduate, postgraduate and Professional levels.
Professor Eno-Abasi Urua, who placed on record the good works ethics and cultural values of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, disclosed that, plans are underway for the hosting of the 2018 Commonwealth Day coming up on March 2018, during which relevant information on the range of opportunities offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) based in the United Kingdom will be made available with a view for possible uptake by indigenes of the state.
She solicited collaboration with Ministry of Information and Strategy through financial support and media publicity to enable the association host a successful 2018 Commonwealth Day in the State.
Highlight of the event, attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Pastor Praise Okon, the State Coordinator, Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association, Dr. Emmanuel Akpabio and Directors in the Ministry was the presentation of different publications of the Ministry by the Information Commissioner to the visiting team.
