In a bid to enhance the state’s education and agricultural sectors, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has taken significant steps.
During today’s plenary session, a motions, and a report were presented, aiming to address pressing issues in these critical areas.
The House Committee on Education, chaired by Hon. (Chief) Kenim Victor Onofiok, presented a report on the urgent need to fence secondary schools and provide live-in quarters for teachers in rural areas. This motion was initially brought forth by Hon. Uduak-Obong Eipo-Ufot, Member Representing Etinan State Constituency.
The committee’s report highlighted the importance of providing these facilities to enhance educational outcomes and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Key recommendations include extending school fencing to all Local Government Areas and prioritizing the construction of live-in quarters for teachers.
In another significant development, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem sponsored a motion urging the establishment of Land Allocation Advisory Committees in all 31 Local Government Areas.
This move, according to the sponsor, will facilitate access to agricultural loans, promote economic growth, and improve land management in the state.
The motion cited concerns over food sufficiency and security, highlighting factors such as climate change, rapid population growth, insecurity, and socio-economic challenges. By establishing these committees, the state can unlock opportunities for investment and development in the agricultural sector.
These motions demonstrate the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly’s commitment to addressing the state’s pressing issues and promoting development in critical sections.
